MSDS / SDS (safety data sheet)

A document from the manufacturer describing a product's hazards, safe handling and transport classification.

In four languages

EnglishMSDS / SDS (safety data sheet)
العربيةصحيفة بيانات السلامة (MSDS / SDS)
中文MSDS / SDS(化学品安全技术说明书)
فارسیبرگه اطلاعات ایمنی مواد (MSDS / SDS)

The safety data sheet, formerly called MSDS, has 16 sections covering hazards, composition, handling, storage and transport information such as the UN number, class and packing group. Shipping lines often ask for one for any chemical product, battery item or cosmetic, even when the goods are not dangerous, so they can confirm the classification. If the goods are dangerous, a dangerous goods declaration is also needed, and lithium batteries need a UN 38.3 test summary. Undeclared dangerous goods can be refused or fined. Example: an importer in Abu Dhabi buys power banks from Shenzhen. The supplier provides the SDS and the UN 38.3 summary, the forwarder books the cargo as declared dangerous goods with carrier approval, and the extra lead time is built into the plan.
