Key points
- Main crossings: Hatta–Al Wajajah for Muscat, Khatmat Malaha for Sohar and Batinah, Mezyad–Hili for Al Ain and Buraimi.
- Book FTL for a full trailer, sealed transit or tight deadlines, and LTL for a few pallets.
- Every truck needs UAE exit or transit papers and an Oman import declaration filed in Bayan in advance.
- UAE duty already paid is not charged again with proof; Omani VAT is.
- Border volumes have been far higher since March 2026, so build in buffer time.
Routes and border crossings
Road freight between the UAE and Oman is a daily routine for us: our UAE to GCC trucking runs every day, typically 1–4 days depending on destination. Most Dubai cargo for Muscat takes the Hatta road and enters Oman at Al Wajajah. Cargo for Sohar, Shinas and the Batinah coast, or cargo starting from Khor Fakkan and the east coast, often uses Khatmat Malaha on the Kalba side of Sharjah. On 4 November 2026 our route notice showed Dubai to Muscat open, 1–2 days by road.
| Crossing (UAE – Oman) | Best for | Notes as of November 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Hatta – Al Wajajah | Dubai and Jebel Ali to Muscat | Main Dubai–Muscat road; also used by the temporary Dubai–Oman Green Corridor for sealed bonded trucks |
| Khatmat Malaha (Kalba, Sharjah) | East coast and Khor Fakkan to Sohar and Batinah | Main point of the Sharjah–Oman logistics corridor launched in May 2026; about 70 km from Sohar Port |
| Al Madam – Mahdah | Sharjah interior to Al Buraimi | Second corridor point; Sharjah toll gate fees waived for corridor trucks arriving from Oman |
| Mezyad / Khatm Al Shikla – Hili | Al Ain and Abu Dhabi to Buraimi and inland Oman | Useful for Abu Dhabi cargo and the interior |
| Crossings to Musandam | Ras Al Khaimah to Musandam | Omani exclave; confirm permits first |
FTL or LTL: which truck to book
- One customer per truck, loaded at your door and sealed
- Curtain-side trailers are about 13.6 m with roughly 20–24 t payload; container chassis carry a 20' or 40' box
- Best for full loads, high-value cargo, transit under customs seal and tight deadlines
- One set of customs papers and fewer handling points
- Your pallets share a truck with other shippers' cargo
- Charged on weight or volume, often with 1 CBM = 333 kg
- Best for a few pallets or cartons when timing is flexible
- Each consignment needs its own documents; one missing paper can hold the whole truck
Usable space: 20GP ~25–28 CBM, 40GP ~55–58, 40HQ ~65–68.
Food and pharmaceuticals move in reefer trailers at a set temperature, and machinery on flatbeds or low-beds, which may need permits. UAE trucks may need Omani permits, and foreign trucks are generally not allowed to make domestic deliveries inside Oman. A truck from Dubai delivers to its consignee and returns; for several drops across Oman, cargo is cross-docked onto an Omani truck.
Customs treatment and duty already paid rules
The GCC Customs Union collects the 5% duty once, at the first point of entry into the GCC. Trucks still stop at every internal GCC border for documents, seals and inspection, and the destination charges its own VAT. Which column you are in decides what you pay at Al Wajajah or Khatmat Malaha.
| Situation | UAE side | Oman side | Duty and VAT |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transit: goods landed at Jebel Ali or Khor Fakkan for an Omani buyer, not cleared in the UAE | UAE transit declaration, sealed truck | Bayan import declaration, seal check | 5% duty on CIF and 5% VAT paid in Oman |
| Re-export from a UAE free zone such as JAFZA | UAE exit or re-export declaration | Bayan import declaration | 5% duty and 5% VAT paid in Oman |
| Goods already cleared and duty-paid in the UAE | Exit or statistical declaration plus copy of the UAE import declaration | Bayan declaration with proof of duty payment | No second GCC duty if proof is accepted; 5% Omani VAT |
| GCC-origin goods made in the UAE | GCC certificate of origin and invoice | Bayan declaration | No duty; 5% Omani VAT and any excise |
Which is better? If all the goods are for Oman, transit through the UAE avoids paying duty in Dubai and lets Oman collect it once. Clearing in Dubai first makes sense mainly when part of the goods stays in the UAE. Our team compares cost and time for your case.

Transit times and conditions as of November 2026
Dubai to Muscat is typically 1–3 days door to door including the border. Since the Strait of Hormuz closed to normal shipping on 1 March 2026, much Gulf cargo lands at Sohar, Khor Fakkan and other ports outside the strait and moves by road, so UAE–Oman borders carry far more trucks than usual. Dubai–Oman Green Corridor declarations rose from about 12,000 in March to nearly 100,000 in April 2026, and Sharjah and Oman opened a second corridor in May. Most delays come from document errors, inspections, queues and holiday peaks such as Eid.

Frequently asked questions
How long does trucking take from Dubai to Muscat?
Typically 1–3 days door to door including the Hatta–Al Wajajah border. Queues have been longer in 2026, so allow buffer time.
Which border crossing should I use from the UAE to Oman?
Hatta–Al Wajajah for Dubai to Muscat, Khatmat Malaha for the east coast, Sohar and Batinah, and Mezyad–Hili for Al Ain and Buraimi.
Do I pay customs duty again in Oman if I paid it in Dubai?
No GCC duty should be charged again if you show the UAE import declaration proving duty was paid. You still pay 5% Omani VAT.
What documents does a truck from Dubai to Oman need?
Commercial invoice, packing list, road consignment note, UAE transit or exit declaration, certificate of origin, a Bayan import declaration in Oman, permits for regulated goods and proof of UAE duty if already cleared.
Can I send a few pallets instead of a full truck?
Yes, by LTL. You pay by weight or volume, often with 1 CBM = 333 kg, and share the truck with other shippers.
Is the Hatta border open for trucks?
As of 4 November 2026 our route notice showed Dubai to Muscat open, 1–2 days by road. Status changes, so our team confirms it when booking.
Can you deliver to several addresses inside Oman?
Foreign trucks generally cannot do domestic deliveries in Oman, so for multi-drop delivery we cross-dock the cargo onto an Omani truck.
